Oswego School District Updated on Progress of Ed Center Marketing

The Oswego City School District’s Education Center could be sold in nine to 12 months; or, maybe even sooner. Or it could take quite a bit longer to find a buyer for the 120 E. First St. property. At Tuesday night’s board of education meeting, the district approved Pyramid Brokerage Company as the authorized broker for the sale of the Education Center.

City Officials Visit Reach Youth Repairing Homes in Fulton

City officials traveled through the city of Fulton to meet Reach program youth at work sites as they rehabilitated more than 50 homes in the area. Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. and first, second and third ward councilmen Thomas Kenyon, David Ritchie, and Donald Patrick Jr. respectively, visited many of the work sites to meet the Reach youth and staff, and speak with participating homeowners. “This is really great,” said Mayor Woodward. “The kids are working really hard and the homeowners are very appreciative.”

Back in June, the staff at Mexico Point Park thought they’d never see “Hoover” again.
“I didn’t think it would happen. But, two boys saw Hoover on a lawn (in a nearby town),” Sandra Scott of Mexico Point Park said. “The owner said his son gave it to him. He said he found it in a storage locker.”

Plans Rev Up To Get Super Dirt Week Racing In Oswego

This year’s edition of Super Dirt Week will look significantly different for dirt race fans while for Oswego Speedway their facility will have a new makeover. It is less than 80 days to the beginning of Super Dirt Week and the process is well under way. Sitting down with World Racing Group Director of Events Jeff Hachmann at the site of this year’s event, he explained how SDW got to where it is. “In novice terms, wood chips will be put down to keep moisture and then 12-15 inches of clay will go down. We will water, roll and till the track just like a gardener would. There will be 600 loads of clay going down,” he said of transforming the Steel Palace into a dirt track once again.

Five Syracuse Residents Charged With Drug Possession in Oswego County

On Sunday (July 17), at approximately 12:27 p.m., State Police stopped an unregistered vehicle on State Route 481 in the town of Volney. Investigation at the scene revealed the vehicle allegedly contained heroin, cocaine, hypodermic needles, open containers, and alprazolam and clonazepam pills.

Haynes, 46, of 2284 County Route 37, Bldg. 95, Mallory, was arrested for first-degree sex abuse, a class D felony; first-degree criminal sex act, a class B felony; first-degree sexual conduct against a child, a class B felony; and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.

County Adopts “Pawn Shop” Law

At its July meeting, the Oswego County Legislature adopted Local law No. 3. The law regulates secondhand dealers regarding the sale and purchase of secondhand articles within the county of Oswego. It will help police in their efforts to locate stolen property that criminals attempt to sell at secondhand businesses. It takes effect August 1.

Community Leaders React to $10M for Downtown Oswego

Governor Andrew Cuomo made a trip to Oswego (July 14) to formally announce the city’s status as a Downtown Revitalization Initiative funding winner in the Central New York region. As a winner of this funding, Oswego will receive ten million dollars to use as means to revamp the downtown area of the city, one of ten overall winners out of 122 total applications throughout each region of the state. Mayor of Oswego, William Barlow Jr., referred to as “one of the youngest, but also one of the best in the state” by Governor Cuomo, was prideful of the application the city had developed and was overjoyed it had been selected.
