Stone Staircase Erected At Great Bear Springs

Friends of Great Bear is pleased to announce the completion of a natural stone staircase near the historic Oswego Canal guard lock at Great Bear Springs Recreation Area. The stone steps replace a steep eroded hillside trail connection. A grant was awarded from the Oswego County Community Foundation to help fund the construction of the stairs.

Fulton District Eyes Implementation of a School-Based Health Clinic

The Fulton City School District Board of Education heard of the benefits and possibility of implementing a NYS school-based health clinic in one of the district’s elementary schools. Though still in it’s infancy stages, the CNY Leadership Development Program, made up of Jon Fasulo, Angela Ferlito, Matt Kimpland, Ami LaDue, Nate Murray, Dan Stadtmiller and Kelly Stadtmiller have thoroughly examined the needs and desires for a school-based health clinic within the district. “This is something we would really like to do,” said executive director of instruction and assessment, Betsy Conners.

Phoenix Man Sentenced 3-9 Years in Prison for Manslaughter

The Phoenix man responsible for fatally stabbing Fulton man, Sean D. Leonard, 23 in October was sentenced today (June 28) to serve three to nine years in prison. Markee L. Cathcart, 20 of Phoenix had previously submitted a guilty plea to the charge of manslaughter in the second degree as part of a plea deal proposing a sentence certain.

Former Fulton Doctor Sentenced; Victim: “Justice Can Never Be Served”

Dilip K. Roy, former Fulton doctor was sentenced today (June 27) to 28 days in Oswego County Jail to be served in intermittent 48 hour periods each week along with six years of probation. Roy was arrested in May 2015 after a patient reported to authorities in April that she was subjected to unwanted sexual intercourse at Roy’s medical practice, FastCare Family Medical located at 941 S. First St., Fulton in March of the same year when she was being treated as a patient. An eventual plea deal allowed Roy to plead guilty to a lessened charge of sexual misconduct, a class A misdemeanor, for which he was sentenced today.

Entergy Identifies, Stops Flow of Lubricating Oil From FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant

This morning (June 27), Entergy personnel at its James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant in Scriba identified the source of oil released to the site’s discharge canal on Sunday and stopped the flow. While this oil contains no PCBs, is non-radioactive, non-hazardous and has low potential health effects, any unintended release to Lake Ontario is not in accordance with Entergy’s standards.
