Oswego County Sites will Celebrate Path Through History Weekend June 18-19

“Oswego County has a rich and colorful heritage and we are indebted to our local historians and historic sites for keeping that heritage alive,” said Janet Clerkin, Oswego County Tourism and Public Information Coordinator. “Path Through History Weekend showcases events taking place June18 and 19 at historic and cultural destinations across New York State. More than 300 events will take place across the state, including three events in Oswego County.”

Scouts, Elks Retire Flags At Fort Ontario

Most people believe the right way to retire an American Flag is to burn it – whole. However, that is not entirely correct. On Saturday, historic Fort Ontario hosted several representatives of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Oswego Lodge #271 as well as a large contingent of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Members of Girl Scout troops 10566 and 10567 were present along with Boy Scout troops 885 and 888. They conducted a U.S. flag retirement program outside the entrance of old fort Ontario. Members of the public were invited to turn in their worn out flags for proper retirement.

Syracuse Woman Found With Cocaine, Counterfeit Money During Traffic Stop in Fulton

On Monday (June 6), at approximately 11:30 p.m., State Police stopped a vehicle on State Route 481 in the city of Fulton for a traffic violation. The operator, Sandee C. Lenhardt, 25, of 336 Beech St., Syracuse, was found to allegedly be operating with a suspended license and was wanted on an arrest warrant in Pennsylvania.

Tunes in June Rolls on Despite Recent Rain Cancellation

A modest crowd showed up to the downtown Fulton gazebo despite the scattered rain and blistery cold wind on Wednesday for one of five Tunes in June musical events. Tunes in June is made possible for the public to enjoy thanks to the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, the Fulton Community Development Agency, the City of Fulton and event sponsor, Pathfinder Bank. Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Greg Mills also thanked Joe Cortini for organizing the entertainment, Jan Rebeor for help organizing the event and Oswego Health, for providing a special day at one of the Tunes in June events.

Oswego Man Facing DWI, Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop

On Thursday, approximately 2:03 p.m., State Police stopped a speeding vehicle on State Route 481 in Schroeppel. Investigation at the scene revealed the operator, Adam R. Casey, was allegedly intoxicated. He was also found to be in possession of several Alprazolam pills without a valid prescription, police said.

Nestles Demolition Continues Moving Forward, Public Sees More Fall

The demolition of the former Nestles site in Fulton is being seen by the public again as work continues on the front side of the building lining State Route 481. The demolition of the 24-acre site has been ongoing although it has not always been visible for the general public to see as the buildings in the back of the site required work first to get to buildings they connect to in the front, facing the main road with the most visibility. Currently, Infinity Enterprises is demolishing the most visible portion of the site to have the property ready for the incoming supermarket chain, Aldi. Infinity Enterprises was awarded the demolition contract, offering to complete the work for no charge to the city but instead just the sole rights to all salvageable materials on the site.
