The sirens were installed last year as a joint effort by Exelon Generation, which owns and operates Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, and Entergy Nuclear, which owns and operates the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant, to upgrade the public warning system to use the latest technology and provide greater reliability.

Economic Development Organization Presents Annual Activity Summary, Achievement Awards

Operation Oswego County held its 64th annual meeting at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center on Thursday. Barbara Bateman, vice president of the OOC board of directors, welcomed more than 150 representatives of businesses, government, education, labor and other ally organizations to the meeting. Keynote presenter Nick Canale, member of the Upstate Energy Jobs Coalition, shared a video and presentation highlighting the growth of the Upstate Energy Jobs Coalition.

Rabid Bat Found in Mexico; Family’s Cats Must Be Quarantined For Six Months

The Oswego County Health Department reported today (June 3) that a bat found in a town of Mexico home has tested positive for rabies. As a result, the health department is investigating family members to determine if there have been any exposures to the bat. Also, three house cats must be placed in six-month quarantine as a result of their exposures.

Off-duty Trooper saves Baldwinsville boy at Northwest Family YMCA pool

Trooper Shaun Smith was swimming laps at the Northwest Family YMCA in Lysander when a 12-year-old Baldwinsville boy went into cardiac arrest in the pool. “It really was a team effort,” Trooper Smith said. “I’m happy the four of us happened to be in the right place at the right time.”
