Your simple business transaction with a Girl Scout is helping her to build a lifetime of real world skills including money management, decision making, goal setting, business ethics and communications. All funds earned stay local. Each troop determines how to spend their cookie profits and many will travel and experience camp together. And they’ll be investing in the community.
Connected to our biggest trading partner, Canada, and to the rest of the world through the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway, the area is our nation’s manufacturing and agricultural powerhouse. Taken as a whole, the economy of the eight Great Lakes States and the two Canadian Great Lakes provinces represents the fourth largest economy in the world, behind only the United States, China and Japan.
We hope that district administrators are considering the long-term benefits of supporting the Buc, in terms of the continued anticipated gains of this program, and the way it stands out as an exceptional school and a model for student-centered learning. It is our fervent hope to continue supporting the exemplary work of the Buc well into the future.
Financial plans for public schools are built on a delicate balance between reasonable expenditures, and revenue from state aid and taxes. In finding balance with the proposed budget for the 2014-2015 school year, the district leaders and members of the board of education have worked diligently to craft a spending plan that is efficient yet supportive of our educational mission. Over the next several weeks, as your superintendent of schools, I will be presenting the budget to various groups and answering questions to inform our community of the budget proposal.
The Friends of the Oswego Library respectfully asks the citizens of the Oswego School District to support the Oswego S.D. Public Library by visiting their polling locations on May 20 and voting yes for the levy that’s has been placed on the ballot.
National Volunteer Week marks a special time of year for The Fresh Air Fund, and I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to our dedicated Fresh Air volunteers, hosts and supporters in Oswego area.
On behalf of the hundreds of children and their families that we serve at the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County I would like to thank those caring businesses and individuals who helped to make our third Annual Chicken Wing & Micro-Brew Fest such a success! The event raised more than $15,000 to help support our efforts to provide vital services to children who have been sexually or physically abused, neglected or maltreated.
Although there were two very positive ideas brought to the table, but they are only in the talking stage right now and it would not be pertinent to mention them at this point in time.
I will say that both of these ideas would be supported by all three of the county legislators.
In recent news, CVS/Caremark has announced their plans to end all tobacco sales by October 1 of this year. This is a huge step forward for public health. It has been a conflict of interest for pharmacies, providers of health care, to also profit from the sale of harmful products such as tobacco, known to cause cancer, heart and pulmonary diseases.
