In 1944, President Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered an emergency shelter for victims of the Holocaust and World War II refugees to be created at Fort Ontario in Oswego.

In the fall of 2013, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) announced that it would ban hunting with firearms on 5,300 acres of its property in the Adirondacks. The ban was a result of the ill-conceived SAFE Act that was enacted earlier that same year.

In recent years, the state has made significant investments in our state parks and communities. Additional funding has helped improve playground equipment, entryways, beach areas, trails, and restroom facilities.

The 2019 state legislative session thankfully came to a merciful close in the early morning hours of June 21. After last November’s election, when downstate Democrats seized control of the state senate, most understood that the legislative agenda would be tilted towards downstate’s liberal priorities.

For the second time in three years, property owners along the southern and eastern shores on Lake Ontario are experiencing catastrophic flooding. With lake levels nearly 3 feet above the 100-year average, water has once again eroded shorelines, forced the collapse of sea walls, and flooded septic systems and homes.

If there is a lesson to be learned from this legislative session, it is that elections have consequences. One-party rule has removed the political checks and balances that previously existed in state government.

Members of the Assembly Majority have proposed a bill that would, once again, place restrictions on hunters and sportsmen across New York. The bill, A.722a, would ban hunting contests, competitions, tournaments or derbies in the state.
