Ahead of Oswego’s Speedway’s 68th season opener featuring Jim Shampine Memorial Twin 50s for the Supermodifieds on May 26, track officials have announced a small number of rule changes for the division in anticipation of the 2018 season. The only Supermodified rule adjustments for this coming season will consist of a shock change as well as a new outline for shovel type tails on the rear section of the race cars.
For the first time in Oswego Speedway’s rich history, a new tradition will take place on Memorial Day Weekend which this season will play host to the Opening Night of racing set to mark 68 consecutive seasons of on track action at the ‘Steel Palace.’
The Oswego State men’s basketball team defeated St. Lawrence, 100-63, on Friday night, earning Coach Jason Leone his 200th victory of his career. With the win, the Lakers improve to 5-4 this season, while the Saints fall to 2-6. Oswego buried 19 3-pointers against the Saints, breaking the old program record for the most 3-pointers in a game.
For the fifth consecutive season, GJP Italian Eatery of Oswego will return to ‘fuel’ Proud Motorsports and team drivers Camden and Tim Proud for the 2018 season at Oswego Speedway as well as on the Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series. Under new ownership for more than two years now, lead by Larry Miller, Nicky Loomis and the Gunther family, GJP has become Oswego County’s one stop shop for Italian eats; a new customer favorite.
As part of Oswego Speedway’s Saturday ‘Super Sales’ this week, track management will offer a mix and match discount sale on the speedway’s Hall of Fame Legends series T-shirts consisting of hall of fame drivers Jim Shampine, Nolan Swift, Eddie Bellinger Jr, Steve Gioia Jr, and Joe Gosek.
When Dan Kapuscinski makes his debut with Mark Castiglia’s Missile Motorsports at Oswego Speedway’s open practice on May 19, the No. 00M machine will have Weedsport Speedway draped across its deck lid. Kapuscinski, who recently joined Weedsport Speedway’s public relations team, will continue at The Port in 2018 and as a result will carry Weedsport Speedway colors on his Oswego Small Block Supermodified, helping to promote events at the 3/8-mile clay oval.
Brewerton and Fulton speedways’ exciting 2018 schedules are taking shape with major events at both speedways that will give race fans high-speed racing excitement in must-see events. The 33rd annual Outlaw 200 Weekend, one of the crown jewels in all of modified racing, will be held at Fulton Speedway on September 28 and 29.
The long anticipated list of rules changes for Oswego Speedway’s Small Block Supermodified division was revealed to race teams on Friday night with one big change included; which is the addition of a voluntary 602 crate engine program for 2018 which will be mandatory for the 2019 season.
The No. 4/4 Oswego State men’s ice hockey team was nearly untouchable for 60 minutes in a 5-2 victory at Plattsburgh on Saturday night at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena. With the triumph, the Lakers stay perfect in league play at 6-0-1 and move to 8-1-1 overall while the Cardinals drop to 5-7-0, 3-6-0.
