Norwich Edges Lake Men’s Soccer

The Oswego State women’s soccer team survived the ebbs and flows of a road contest at DeSales University with a 3-2 victory on Saturday afternoon. With the season-opening win, Oswego goes to 1-0 while DeSales suffers its first loss to drop to 1-1.
The Oswego State volleyball team swept its competition in its 2016 tournament with two victories on Saturday in Max Ziel Gymnasium. Oswego is now 3-0 on the year and will put its winning streak on the line at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in a nonconference matchup at Ithaca College.
On Friday night, Baldwinsville’s Michael Muldoon earned something his father had come close to, but could never lay claim to – the pole for the International Classic 200. In time-trials, the younger Muldoon circled Oswego Speedway’s five-eighth’s mile in 16.082 seconds, just one-tenth faster than outside pole starter, Pat Lavery. The two will set the pace for Sunday’s 60th running of supermodified racing’s most prestigious race.

The Oswego State field hockey team opened the 2016 slate at home with a stunning come-from-behind 3-2 overtime victory over Houghton College on Thursday afternoon at Laker Turf Stadium. Oswego’s win pushes the team to 1-0 on the year while the Highlanders start off 0-1.
Since 2009 the Budweiser International Classic 200 for Novelis Supermodifieds at Oswego Speedway has been ruled by the black and blue duo of Bob Bond and Otto Sitterly, each claiming all of their Classic titles in the seven year span. This year however, some argue there are nearly two dozen drivers with a shot at the $15,000 top prize.
A handful of Novelis Supermodifieds have taken laps at Oswego Speedway since last Friday in anticipation of this Friday’s CNY Chevy Dealers Qualifying Night at Budweiser International Classic Weekend with Pat Lavery and defending Classic champion Bob Bond so far leading the speed charts. Lavery leads the way as of Tuesday evening, driving the Graham Racing No. 12 Xtreme Supermodified with a lap of 16.403 seconds.
Labor Day weekend means different things to different people. End of the summer, start of school, beginning of football season. At the Fulton Speedway it means two things, the crowning of track champions and the start of gearing up to the kick off of Super DIRT Week with the 31st annual Sunoco Fulton Ethanol Facility Outlaw 200 Weekend presented by SUNY Canton at the speedway.
Budweiser Classic Week is officially under way and to help kick start the celebration a pair of Oswego Speedway race cars will be on display Tuesday evening at the east side McDonald’s located directly in front of the Speedway. They will be on display from 5-8 p.m.
