Sandy Creek’s Cheney Advances to State Cross-Country Ski Competition
Emily Cheney, a junior at Sandy Creek High School will advance to the Cross Country Ski State Championships at Mount Van Hoevenberg outside of Lake Placid on Feb. 23 and 24.

The Sandy Creek Varsity Boys’ Basketball team was named Frontier League Class C Champions. The team is coached by Jim Hunt who was selected as Class C Division Coach of the Year.
The Oswego State men’s basketball team went on the road to defeat host Geneseo 76-64 on Tuesday evening. With the victory, Oswego improves to 16-8 on the year and, more importantly, 12-5 in the league. Oswego is still in second in the SUNYAC standings, a half-game behind Plattsburgh, who defeated Potsdam on Tuesday night.
The Oswego State women’s basketball team lost a 72-59 contest to host Geneseo on Tuesday night. With the conference loss, the Lakers overall record is 8-16 with a 6-11 mark in the SUNYAC while the Knights remain atop the league standings at 19-4, 15-1. The defeat eliminates Oswego from playoff contention.
The nation’s largest all indoor motorsports event will take place February 21-22 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s Farm Show Complex, featuring two days of intense wheel-to-wheel kart racing with a collection of drivers from Oswego Kartway looking to make the trek south down I-81. As many as five Oswego Kartway contenders are preparing to make the southward journey.
Losurdo Racing and driver Anthony Losurdo will be putting on their annual Oswego Speedway Pathfinder Bank Small Block Super racing fundraiser February 22 at Lighthouse Lanes in Oswego beginning at noon. The fundraiser will feature barbeque chicken or pulled pork dinners for $10.
The Oswego State women’s basketball team fell 66-61 to Plattsburgh at Max Ziel Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the team goes to 8-15 overall and 6-10 in the SUNYAC.
The Oswego State men’s basketball team fought hard to the final whistle, eventually succumbing to Plattsburgh 66-59 in a battle of the SUNYACs top two teams at home on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Lakers are now 15-8 overall and 11-5 in league action while the Cardinals improve to 16-6, 11-4.
The Oswego State women’s basketball team made it two straight victories and three out of its last four with an 93-75 win over Potsdam on Friday night in Max Ziel Gymnasium. With the triumph, the Lakers go to 8-14 on the year and 6-9 in SUNYAC action while the Bears drop to 1-20, 0-14.
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team defeated Stevenson University 2-0 on Friday night at the Marano Campus Center Arena. The win had special meaning as it was Diane Dillon’s 100th win of her career. Dillon has been head coach of the team ever since its reboot in 2006.
