Matt Sheppard lived up to his nickname ‘Super Matt’ Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway winning his first ever Sunoco Fulton Ethanol Facility Outlaw 200 presented by SUNY Canton. Sheppard took the lead from early leader Billy Decker on lap-23 and from there would never give up the top spot over the final 177 laps.

The Oswego State women’s soccer team earned a point in conference standings with a 2-2 double overtime tie at Plattsburgh on Saturday afternoon. With the tie, Oswego remains without a blemish in conference play at 2-0-2 while standing at 5-4-2 overall. The Cardinals move to 6-3-1 on the year and 2-0-1 in SUNYAC action.

The Oswego State men’s soccer team lost a 2-0 contest against SUNYAC rival Plattsburgh on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Laker Soccer Field. The loss puts them at 2-7-2 on the season and 1-2-1 in conference play.

With rain showers delaying the show late into the night Friday, one Modified heats were cancelled. Sportsman heats moved to Saturday.

With less than a minute left in double overtime, the Oswego State women’s soccer team completed a comeback as senior captain Georgia Traynor sent a corner kick in for a score at 109:03 to push the Lakers past the Bears, 3-2. The victory gives the squad a 2-0-1 record in conference action and a 5-4-1 mark on the year while Potsdam goes to 0-2-0, 4-4-1.

The Eastern College Athletic Conference has named Sarah Grupp, of the Oswego State women’s soccer team, its Division III Upstate Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 28, 2014. This is Grupp’s second honor of the week as its follows the SUNYAC recognizing her as its Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

With the 2014 Oswego Speedway season in the books, focus now to shifts to the Mitchell’s Speedway Press Oswego Speedway Hall of Fame Banquet set to be hosted by the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center on November 1. The event center is part of the Best Western PLUS Captain’s Quarters and Quality Inn and Suites complex located on East First Street.

The State University of New York Athletic Conference has named Oswego State’s Sarah Grupp of the women’s soccer team its Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 28, 2014.
