At last Saturday’s annual Fulton’s football homecoming game, which featured Fulton vs. Oswego at the Athletic Complex, everything came together to make it memorable. What made it special was the combination of the end of Spirit Week at G.R. Bodley High School, and the innovative Raider Day, which featured activities for the students with participation from teachers, coaches and administrative staff.
One of the most popular events of the racing season for fans and competitors is the 50-Lap, $2,500 to-win Industrial Tire Of CNY Sportsman Championship that is part of the Sunoco Ethanol Facility Outlaw 200 Weekend presented by SUNY Canton on October 3-4 at the Fulton Speedway.
Syrell Racing and Hawk Chassis are partnering once again for the return of their Supermodified racing calendar for the upcoming 2015 season. Last season Syrell Racing put together the inaugural Supermodified calendar featuring 13 local models, including Speedway trophy girls Caylee Heagerty and Mackenzie Coleman.
The Oswego State women’s soccer team edged out New Paltz 2-0 in a SUNYAC contest on Saturday afternoon at Laker Soccer Field. Oswego now improves to 4-4-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in conference play while New Paltz falls to 6-4-1, 0-1-1.
Oswego State volleyball came away with two victories in SUNYAC Pool Play on Saturday at Max Ziel Gymnasium. The squad took the first match 3-1 against Plattsburgh (25-27, 25-14, 25-13, 25-19) followed by a 3-1 win against Buffalo State (21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-23).
The Oswego High School Softball Players and Parents Association is accepting donations for its annual fall rummage sale that will be held on October 18 from 9 a.m. -1 p.m. at the Oswego High School cafeteria. To donate items for sale, call Carrie Culeton at 343-8279 for more information.
The Oswego State men’s soccer team lost a 2-0 match to nationally-ranked Oneonta on Friday afternoon. With its first loss in SUNYAC play, Oswego falls to 1-6-1 overall while Oneonta remains unbeaten at 7-0-1.
Oswego State student-athletes and the college’s athletics department are looking forward to all of the opportunities and benefits that a new turf field and stadium will bring starting next summer. Construction recently began for an NCAA-compliant, 225- by 360-foot all-weather synthetic turf field along with a press box, bleachers and full stadium lighting to be completed by the summer of 2015, according to Susan Viscomi, the college’s director of athletics.
With the 2014 Oswego Speedway season now in the books, focus shifts to the Mitchell’s Speedway Press Oswego Speedway Hall of Fame Banquet set to be hosted by the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center in Oswego on November 1. Drivers Dave Shullick Sr. and Jim Winks will lead this year’s class of six total inductees.
