Payne Shatters Oswego Track Record in Budweiser International Classic ‘Fast 14’ Time Trials
Oswego Speedway’s Budweiser International Classic ‘Fast 14’ time trials proved to be historic Friday night, as Joey Payne shattered the Supermodified track record with a lap of 15.802 seconds at 142.387 mph, to set on the pole for Sunday’s 58th annual International Classic. Payne’s blistering lap aboard the Graham/Strong Racing Xtreme No. 99 bested a field of 37 Supermodifieds to take time on Friday night, and was the fastest of three drivers to turn the Speedway’s first laps under 16 seconds in a non-wing Supermodified.
Hamilton Blisters Thursday Morning Test at Oswego Speedway
In Thursday’s early morning hours, 1997 International Classic champion Davey Hamilton blistered Budweiser Classic Week testing with the new Nicotra Racing No. 6 Hawk Supermodified. Hamilton laid down the fastest lap of the week thus far with a circuit of 16.352 at 137 mph in the brand new Nicotra roadster, making Hamilton an immediate threat for the International Classic pole position during tomorrow night’s ‘Fast 14’ pole day Supermodified time trials that will go green at 6:30 p.m.
Graham, Bond Top the Charts in Budweiser Classic Week Wednesday Test Session
Eleven more race cars took to Oswego Speedway on Wednesday for Budweiser International Classic Week testing at the ‘Steel Palace’ with Ray Graham leading the Supermodified charts and Mike Bond topping the SBS racers in attendance. Times dropped considerably on Wednesday, compared to the Tuesday evening test session.

‘Classic Moments’ Countdown: #4 Warren Coniam Wins Second Classic Driving for Joe Magari – 1987 International Classic
With 4 days remaining until the International Classic, the countdown continues with No. 4, recapping Warren Coniam’s second International Classic win, this time driving for Joe Magari in 1987. A few weeks prior to the ’87 Classic, Coniam did not even have a ride. The Canadian Classic winner had parted ways with car owner Clyde Booth earlier in the season and hooked up with car owner Magari just prior to the Classic.
Fans Sponsor Inaugural Budweiser International Classic Supermodified Take it Off Bonus
A set of Oswego Speedway and Supermodified race fans have banded together to post the inaugural Budweiser International Classic Supermodified “Take it Off Bonus.” The “Take it Off Bonus,” initiated by long-time Speedway and Supermodified supporter Dennis Bivens, will provide a $500 prize to a driver that takes the same Supermodified to a top ten finish in the winged Bud Light ISMA Super Nationals on August 30 and the non-wing Budweiser International Classic 200 on August 31.
Gioia, Simmons Lead Budweiser Classic Week Tuesday Testing
A total of 10 race cars clocked official times during Tuesday night’s Budweiser Classic Week test session at Oswego Speedway with Stephen Gioia III and Jason Simmons topping the charts in Supermodified and Small Block Super hot laps. Gioia was sporting a new engine in the No. 9, owned by former Oswego Speedway Supermodfied car owner Ed LaPrade. Struggling with low horsepower all season long, the Gioia team struck a deal to run the LaPrade engine just before the richest and most prestigious Supermodified race in the world.
