St Paul’s Girl’s Travel Basketball Tryouts Announced

The St. Paul’s Girls Travel Basketball program has announced its open tryout schedule for the upcoming season. The program is again assembling one 5th and 6th grade team and two 7th and 8th grade teams. Each team generally consists of 9-12 players from Oswego County school districts. The teams practice 2-3 nights per week and play in 12-15 tournaments October through March.

Lichty Clinches Back-to-Back Shea Concrete ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA Super Series Titles at Oswego

With another podium finish in the ISMA Super Nationals during Budweiser International Classic Weekend, Canadian front runner Mike Lichty earned enough championship points to be declared the Shea Concrete ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA Super Series champion for the second consecutive year in the PATCO Transportation/Reed’s Salvage No. 84. For the second season Oswego Speedway, ISMA, and Shea Concrete partnered for the special ‘Steel Palace’ championship series, with a handsome $5,000 point fund on the line for the top five driver’s in the Oswego only series championship.

Former NBA draft pick speaks at SUNY Oswego

Former NBA draft pick Chris Herren paid a visit to Oswego State to talk to students about substance abuse on Wednesday evening in the Marano Campus Center Arena. The subject of his speech was a problem Herren battled throughout his collegiate and professional careers. In front of nearly all of Oswego’s 450 student-athletes, along with other members of the College’s student body, faculty and staff, Herren spoke about his struggles that ranged from alcohol and prescription painkillers to heroin.

Sitterly Clears $25,000 in Purse, Contingencies with Fourth Classic Triumph

After the dust settled from another Budweiser International Classic 200, which saw Otto Sitterly grace victory lane for the fourth time in six years, the heralded Supermodified driver from Canajoharie, NY, walked away from the ‘Steel Palace’ clearing more than $25,000 in purse and contingency prizes. Beyond the $15,000 pay day that comes with the International Classic trophy and title of Classic champion, Sitterly netted more than $4,000 in lap money on his way to victory lane.
