Oswego Speedway’s second nationally televised broadcast of the 2014 racing season will air Thursday, September 11 at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific, featuring the tape delayed 28th annual running of the $10,000 to win Mr. Novelis Supermodified presented by Davis Bros. Inc. which took place at the Speedway on August 2. Thursday’s broadcast will bring fans one of the most exciting Supermodified events on the racing calendar, with the second largest winner’s purse of the season.
Oswego Speedway weekly Supermodified contender Jeff Abold traveled to Epping, NH, last weekend for the 49th running of the Star Classic 150 for ISMA Supermodifieds at Star Speedway and returned home with a top five finish in the A&P Automotive No. 05. Abold, who finished second in the Star Classic one year ago, started the final leg of the Supermodified Triple Crown in the 11th position and worked his way to a fifth place finish by the end of 150 green flag laps of racing.
The Race of Champions is the second oldest consecutively run auto racing event in the United States, second only to the Indianapolis 500. This year the RoC will not only be highlighted by the Sunoco Modified 200, but Oswego Speedway’s staple divisions will crown their champions across two days.
The Oswego State women’s soccer team improved to .500 (2-2) on the year with a 6-0 rout of Medaille College in its final game of the Blue Devil/Clarion Classic, hosted by Fredonia. Medaille’s loss dropped its team record to 0-4 on the year.
The Oswego State men’s soccer team lost a 2-0 contest at Nazareth College on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Lakers are now 1-3-0 on the season while the Golden Flyers improved to 2-1-0.
The Oswego State volleyball team took two victories on the opening day of the University of Rochester Invitational. Its two wins pushes the Lakers’ record back to .500 at 3-3 as the squad will play two more matches on Saturday, starting with Skidmore College at 1 p.m. followed by Hamilton College at 3 p.m.
