With 5 days remaining until the International Classic, the countdown continues with No. 5, featuring the iconic last ride of Jim Shampine’s rear engine 8-ball at Oswego Speedway with Warren Coniam at the controls in the 1979 International Classic. Going into the ’79 Classic, Shampine had a decision to make as to whether he would drive the rear engine 8-ball, or his winning front engine radical offset machine in the 200. Shampine chose to drive the front engine roadster, tabbing Canadian Classic champion Coniam to drive the pusher.

The first official main event of Oswego Speedway’s 58th annual Budweiser International Classic Weekend will be the Corr/Pak Merchandising Modified Classic 100 featuring the Race of Champions Modifieds on Friday. Affectionately known as the “Ground Pounders,” the asphalt Modifieds have long been a staple of Budweiser International Classic Weekend and that tradition continues in 2014.

Phelps Holds Off Hard-Charging Decker For Fulton Speedway Modified Win

Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway there were two big winners in the Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modifieds. First was Chad Phelps. Phelps battled in the top-five all race long in the 35-Lap feature that had the winner in doubt until the checkers. The second winner of the night was Billy Decker. In his heat race he took a wild ride that had his car at least 15 feet in the air, landing hard on the front and then ending up on his roof. He pulled out his back-up car and brought home a second place finish on a broken left-rear shock.

Budweiser International Classic Bubble Car to Receive $1,000 Prize Money

This week, it was announced that Doug and Sherry Heveron will also post a $500 bonus to the Classic bubble car, in memory of Tom and Gail Heveron, raising the prize money awarded to the first non-qualifier to a sizable $1,000.

At the conclusion of the 58th annual Budweiser International Classic 200 for Novelis Supermodifieds on August 31, a total of $6,900 in lap money will be distributed to lap leaders of the richest and most prestigious event in Supermodified racing. Each year, Oswego Speedway Hall of Fame member Jim Liccardi works to sell lap sponsorships in memory of or supporting Oswego Speedway competitors.
