Coming into the 35-Lap finale Saturday teammates Billy Decker and Larry Wight are separated by one single point with former track champion Jimmy Phelps just 25 points back.
The Pride travel softball program will have a tryout/commitment day from 3 – 5 p.m. on September 14 at the Oswego High School varsity softball field for any girl interested in playing Pride travel softball next summer. With 5 days remaining until the International Classic, the countdown continues with No. 5, featuring the iconic last ride of Jim Shampine’s rear engine 8-ball at Oswego Speedway with Warren Coniam at the controls in the 1979 International Classic. Going into the ’79 Classic, Shampine had a decision to make as to whether he would drive the rear engine 8-ball, or his winning front engine radical offset machine in the 200. Shampine chose to drive the front engine roadster, tabbing Canadian Classic champion Coniam to drive the pusher.
The Oswego Boys’ Varsity Golf Team opened its 2014 season on Monday at Cortland Country Club, home to the Homer Trojans. The Bucs were entering the season in a new league, full of new competition and new golf courses.

The first official main event of Oswego Speedway’s 58th annual Budweiser International Classic Weekend will be the Corr/Pak Merchandising Modified Classic 100 featuring the Race of Champions Modifieds on Friday. Affectionately known as the “Ground Pounders,” the asphalt Modifieds have long been a staple of Budweiser International Classic Weekend and that tradition continues in 2014.
The eighth annual RJ Kart Sales Oswego Kartway Classic will kick-off racing directly behind Oswego Speedway during Budweiser International Classic Week on Thursday 28 at 6:30 p.m. The Kartway Classic has become a staple event for kart racers throughout New York State, and with increasing weekly kart counts at Oswego Kartway during the regular season, the Classic looks to be on its way to a record number of entries this week.
With six days remaining until the International Classic, the countdown continues with No. 6, the 1997 International Classic which saw Indy Car star Davey Hamilton inherit the lead after Mike Muldoon and Eddie Bellinger Jr. collided while battling at the point. The exciting conclusion to the 1997 International Classic all got started with 10 laps to go.
Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway there were two big winners in the Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modifieds. First was Chad Phelps. Phelps battled in the top-five all race long in the 35-Lap feature that had the winner in doubt until the checkers. The second winner of the night was Billy Decker. In his heat race he took a wild ride that had his car at least 15 feet in the air, landing hard on the front and then ending up on his roof. He pulled out his back-up car and brought home a second place finish on a broken left-rear shock.
