Rain showers began to fall on the Speedway during hot laps at 4:30 p.m., bringing all warmup periods to an end. Speedway officials made the call some 90 minutes later to postpone racing to the posted raindate of Sunday. Pit gates will open Sunday at 10 a.m. with grandstand gates opening and hot laps beginning at 11 a.m.
Oswego Speedway’s racing action, presented by Oswego County Federal Credit Union and Bosco’s Famous Italian Sausage, will start 30 minutes early tonight with Pathfinder Bank Small Block Super heats taking the green at 6 p.m. Most regional weather models are showing weather moving into the area later tonight. As a result Speedway officials have decided to bump up the start time for tonight’s event to 6 p.m.
With 16 days remaining until the International Classic, the countdown continues with No. 16, Jack Murphy and Nolan Swift’s photo finish in the inaugural International Classic. The Murphy/Swift battle of ’57 was the race that launched the International Classic into an annual and very successful event. As the first 100-lap Classic neared its completion, Swift and Murphy, two of stock car racing’s most famous drivers, were hooked in a bitter battle.
Nine weeks after suffering a compression fracture to his lower back in a June 14 Pathfinder Bank Small Block Super incident at Oswego Speedway, Mike Bond has entered the Bud Light SBS Classic 75 at the ‘Steel Palace.’ Bond, a three time series champion and three time SBS Classic champion, plans to return to the seat in a limited role during the Speedway’s Small Block Super Twin 20 events this Saturday in preparation for Budweiser International Classic Weekend.
Prolonged lake effect rains overnight and into Friday have forced Oswego Kartway officials to postpone the Justin Lamb Memorial to the Kartway’s Track Championship Night on August 22. With cool and cloudy conditions expected throughout the day, the track surface was deemed too saturated to be turned around for clean and effective racing tonight (Aug. 15). The Kartway returns to action on August 22 with the second annual Justin Lamb Memorial as well as Track Championship night.
Ticket renewals for the upcoming 58th annual Budweiser International Classic Weekend at Oswego Speedway August 29-31 will close at the end of business on August 18. Renewal forms have been available for reserved seating on all three days of Budweiser International Classic Weekend since last year’s running of the richest and most prestigious Supermodified race in the world.
With a fourth place finish in last weekend’s Novelis Supermodified main event, Otto Sitterly has regained the series point lead in search of his historical seventh Speedway title. Despite a point penalty earlier this season which withdrew 19 markers from Sitterly’s overall total, the driver of the Nicotra Racing No. 7 has rebounded, now leading championship runner-up Dave Gruel by 7 points.
In a year of first time winners at Oswego Kartway, Ron Ingison and Rusty Natoli added their names to the list last Friday night at the Bullring. Ingison, driving his No. 114 in Clone Heavy, would actually double up on the night picking up wins in the RJ Kart Sales Battle at the Bullring make-up main as well as in the regular 25-lap Chavis Motorsports main on Friday.
With 18 days remaining until the International Classic, the countdown continues with No. 18, Kenny Andrews’ “Cinderella” finish in the 1973 International Classic. Canadian Andrews was considered one of the heavy favorites to win the ’73 Classic, but disaster struck early on in practice on Saturday.
