The Oswego Speedway Eagles Fan Club Kids Bike Giveaway will continue weekly at the ‘Steel Palace’ this season, beginning with the Speedway’s 64th annual Gater Racing News Opening Night celebration this Saturday. As in years past, the Eagles Fan Club will once again give away a free bike each week at the Speedway in 2014, provided by Doyle’s Bike Shop in Fulton.
With the month of May on the doorstep at Oswego Speedway, and the first green flag of the season set for Saturday, Oswego Speedway’s current track records are on the line with time trials set for both the ISMA Supermodifieds and the Pathfinder Bank Small Block Supers this weekend. With cool temperatures in the forecast, track conditions could be ideal for record speeds in both divisions on Saturday afternoon when time trials take to the Speedway at 5 p.m.
Oswego State student-athlete Bailey Waterbury of the women’s soccer team has been named a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Award for 2014. One of 83 recipients this year from across the 64-campus system, Waterbury and other honorees are nominated by their campus athletic director. Their credentials and accomplishments are then reviewed by a panel of athletic directors from around SUNY as well as the Provost’s Office for the system
Gater Racing News will present the 64th annual opening day celebration featuring the first round of the Shea Concrete ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA Super Series, and the Road to the Championship lid lifter for the Pathfinder Bank Small Block Super Series on May 3.
Despite gray skies and intermittent rain showers, just over 20 racecars took to Oswego Speedway on Saturday for their first laps of the 2014 season. A total of 13 Pathfinder Bank Small Block Supers, seven Novelis Supermodifieds, and two ISMA Supermodifieds came through the main gate with each group receiving one full hot lap session. The threat for inclement weather forced officials to move the start time for the test sessions up to 12:30 p.m., and shortly after taking the initial green flag rain moved into the area causing a lengthy delay.
The Oswego State baseball team fell 9-6 at the hands of Plattsburgh in a 10-inning game on Saturday afternoon at Laker Baseball Field. All three of the contests between the Cardinals and Lakers in the weekend series went to extra frames. With the loss, Oswego drops to 19-10 overall and 10-8 in SUNYAC action while Plattsburgh moves to 12-21, 7-11.
Oswego Speedway and AsphaltVision announced on Friday their partnering HD video streaming Pay-Per-View schedule for the 2014 Speedway season, which will encompass a total of 16 events including nine live broadcasts. With nine events being broadcast live, utilizing a multi-camera high definition shoot, the remaining seven events will be available on a tape delay basis ready for air the day after the scheduled event.
Unfortunately, the High Bank Holdup scheduled for today (at Fulton Speedway) has been cancelled due to bad weather. We will see everyone back here next Saturday for our 2014 points opener.
A tough field of Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modifieds signed into the pits on opening night at the Fulton Speedway. Add to the field, Super DIRTcar Series touring drivers shaking their cars down for Saturday’s “High Bank Hold Up 100” series race made it an All-Star field.
