As the countdown continues toward the Speedway’s 64th consecutive season of green flag racing, fans have the opportunity to assist in getting the ‘Steel Palace’ ready for action on Saturday with the 11th annual Pizza Villa Spring Spruce-Up Day. The event will begin at 10 a.m. with free lunch being served by Pizza Villa of Oswego at noon.
Despite wintry conditions expected in the middle portions of this week, the Kartway track crew and personnel are hard at work preparing the Kartway facility and racing surface for the Friday night lid lifter.
Tom Juno and Power Seal Asphalt Sealing is continuing where he left off last year. On April 26, Juno will post a purse of $300 for the Sportsman Power Seal Dash. The top two finishers from each heat race will be eligible.
The Oswego State baseball team clinched the regular season series over nationally-ranked Cortland with a doubleheader split on the road on Monday afternoon. Oswego’s record is now 15-7 overall and 7-5 in SUNYAC action while No. 4/5 Cortland goes to 22-7, 10-2.
For the second straight game, Oswego received a complete-game from its starting pitcher. Miles Kelly threw the full seven innings less than 24 hours after Brendyn Karinchak tossed a complete-game one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and no walks. Kelly scattered eight hits that led to three runs, striking out four batters while walking just one.
The Oswego State baseball team needed just two runs in the first inning to outlast Oneonta 2-1 on the road Friday afternoon. With the win, the Lakers improve to 13-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play while the Red Dragons drop to 8-15, 3-2.
Fans and teams will have to wait a couple of extra weeks this year for the much-anticipated Brewerton Speedway season to get under way. The longer than expected unseasonable weather has forced the season opener to be pushed back until night, May 2. The April 15 test and tune has been rescheduled to April 29 at 6:30 p.m. However, Fulton Speedway will pick up the slack by expanding the April 26 “Highbank Holdup” to a two-day event.
The Oswego State baseball team used a five-run first inning to defeat #4/5 Cortland by a score of 9-5 on the road Wednesday afternoon. With the win, Oswego moves to 12-5 overall and 3-3 in SUNYAC play. Cortland falls to 19-5 and 8-1 in conference action
A total of four Oswego Speedway race team fundraisers are planned for the upcoming weekend, as the Speedway’s opening day of racing inches closer.
Oswego Kartway will officially open its doors for the season on Saturday with a two-hour open practice scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The two-hour open session will follow the annual track cleanup day, which will begin at 8 a.m.
