With seven first place votes, Oswego State earned the top spot for the third straight year. Head coach Ed Gosek and the Lakers are coming off a season where they posted an overall record of 24-4-2 and a conference record of 14-0-2

Freshman goalie Grace Lombardi (Ossining, N.Y.) kept the Oswego State field hockey team (3-10-1, 1-4-0 SUNYAC) within striking distance of Geneseo (10-4-0, 4-1-0), but in the end the Lakers fell 2-0 on Friday afternoon.

The Oswego State volleyball team (10-14) was unable to match the firepower of 11th-ranked Cortland (25-2) in a straight-set loss (25-15, 25-15, 25-15) Wednesday night. The Red Dragons hit a blazing .292 on 30 kills and just nine errors.

The Oswego State men’s basketball team was recognized as a team to watch in the 2012-13 DIII News Preseason Poll that was recently released. The Lakers are coming off a season in which they went 26-4 overall and 18-0 in conference play.

Samantha Rock’s goal in the 73rd minute proved to be the difference maker, as the Oswego State women’s soccer team (5-9-0) lost 1-0 to St. Lawrence University (7-5-0) Tuesday night.

Walkland joins the Laker staff after being part of the staff that saw RIT win its first NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey Championship in 2012 and set a NCAA D-III single-season record with a 28 victories.

The Oswego State volleyball team (10-13) dropped a pair of matches to Cazenovia, 3-1 (25-20, 25-27, 13-25, 20-25), and Mount St. Mary, 3-0 (18-25, 17-25, 25-27), on Saturday.

The Oswego State field hockey team fell behind early and was never able to recover, as it lost to non-conference Keystone 4-1, Saturday afternoon. Hope Krolewski and Brittany Cardona registered a goal and an assist each to help the home team earn the victory.

The Oswego State women’s soccer team (5-8-0, 2-6-0 SUNYAC) trailed 3-0 heading into halftime, as the Lakers lost to Brockport (12-1-2, 5-5-1 SUNYAC), 3-1, on a chilly Saturday afternoon.
