Shelly Bateman (Sr., Fulton, N.Y.) netted a pair of goals to propel the Oswego State women’s soccer team to a 3-2 victory over St. Joseph’s (L.I.) on Saturday.

The Oswego State women’s tennis team was unable to keep pace with New Paltz in a 9-0 loss in the season opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at the Romney Tennis Courts.

The Oswego State men’s soccer team (1-1-0) suffered a 2-0 loss to Medaille (2-0-0) in the championship game of the Oswego State Men’s Soccer Kick-Off Tournament on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

In their first action of 2012, the Oswego State men’s and women’s cross country teams posted second-place finishes at the Oneonta Early Bird Invitational on Saturday.

Of the 37 Novelis Supermodifieds to take time, 24 clocked in under the 17-second bracket, the most in history.  When it was all said and done Oswego native Pat Lavery, in the Double Deuce Racing No. 22, stood above the rest with a lap of 16.242 seconds, and will lead the field to green on Sunday.

For the first time in Classic Weekend history the 602 Crate Dirt Sportsman took to the ‘Steel Palace’ oval and at the end of 30-laps it was Fulton’s Jeremy Pitcher standing in Chris Nelson Insurance Victory Lane with a check for $1,500.

Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway the 2012 points season ended in exciting fashion. On the night there were first time winners and first time champions crowned on NAPA Season Championship/ Syracuse Crunch Night.

Thirteenth-ranked William Smith proved to be too much for the Oswego State field hockey team, as the Herons handed the visitors a 7-2 loss Friday night. William Smith was paced by two goals and an assist from Annie Kietzman.
