The top-ranked Oswego State men’s ice hockey team (22-3-2) nearly erased a two-goal deficit in the third period, but fourth-ranked Plattsburgh (19-4-4) held on to hand the Lakers a 3-2 loss in the State University of New York Athletic Conference Championship game Saturday night at the Campus Center Ice Arena.
After building a 6-1 lead in the first four innings, the Oswego State (0-2) baseball team allowed SUNY Old Westbury (4-2) to score three runs in the bottom of the ninth and another in the tenth as the Panthers handed the Lakers a 10-9 loss.
Freshman goaltender Bridget Smith posted 33 saves to keep the fourth-seeded Oswego State women’s ice hockey team within striking distance of second-seeded Plattsburgh, but were unable to break through in a 1-0 ECAC West Semifinal loss on Saturday
This time their comeback was not enough. The 14th-ranked Oswego State men’s basketball team trailed by 10 in the second half and by five in the first overtime, but a three-pointer by 21st-ranked Eastern Connecticut State University with 2.5 seconds left in double overtime handed the Lakers a 70-69 on Saturday night.
With the score tied late in the third quarter, the Oswego State men’s lacrosse team scored eight unanswered goals en route to a season-opening 15-7 win against Morrisville Saturday afternoon.
It’ll be an entertaining evening of Professional Hockey the night before the Motorsports Expo kicks off. The puck will drop at 7:30. Sprint car star Jessica Zemken will also be on hand to meet fans.
It took yet another huge comeback, but the 14th-ranked Oswego State men’s basketball team is moving on to the second round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament for the second straight year following a 72-71 overtime win over Endicott College (Mass.) at Max Ziel Gymnasium on Friday night.

The varsity softball parents association will be hosting a chicken barbecue on March 11 from 11 a.m. until sold out at Gibby’s Pub, West Second and Lake streets in Oswego.
This weekend Oswego High School will be represented at four different sports venues as the hockey and bowling teams along with individual swimmers and a track competitor will all be seeking honors at the state tournament level.
