Half-Shire Historical Society News – July 26, 2013

During the hot and humid days of mid-July a dedicated corps of volunteers spent extra time in the cool main hall at Half-Shire’s Richland headquarters sorting and copying the Widrig obituaries. The Widrig collection is comprised of more than 30 boxes of pasted up clippings regarding the deaths of more than 15,000 individuals from the region.

Half-Shire Historical Society Column – July 19, 2013

The 157th Oswego County Fair is now history. Muddy parking lots, intermittent rain and sustained heat made the week somewhat uncomfortable and difficult for fairgoers.
Despite this, George Commins at the chicken stand said he was only “down 100 halves” from normal. In the Heritage building we were kept busy with a steady stream of regulars and new friends.

Riding Camp For Kids Saddles Up on Monday

horseTwo local young women are sharing their love of horses with others this week and again in August. The next session of the Bits and Pieces Horseback Riding Camp will be held on Monday. Another is set to open August 12. The camp is geared toward youngsters 6 to 12 years old. To check on openings for this week, call Megan Colloca at 529-4846 or Brianna Amedio at 529-7031.

Half-Shire Historical Society News – Week of June 10, 2013

The society has been very busy this spring with public hours most every day between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Various volunteers are staffing the building and helping researchers during these times. Our former librarian Pam Kellogg is up most days through July while she visits New York and has been working with Erma Schroeder on the indexing of obituaries.
