Otto Sitterly started from the sixth position in the 75-lap season finale, blasted by point rival Joe Gosek on lap 16 for the runner-up spot, and then stole the lead from Michael Barnes on lap 44 to cruise onto his fourth victory of the season giving Sitterly a 13-point edge on Gosek for his sixth career Oswego Supermodified track title.
Warm days and cool nights are sure a blessing after the heat wave of early July.
After the extreme heat and humidity one of our trustees, Phil Rombach, took the lead in having central air installed in the main hall. The cost has been donated by Phil in honor of his late wife, Rita Rombach.
During the hot and humid days of mid-July a dedicated corps of volunteers spent extra time in the cool main hall at Half-Shire’s Richland headquarters sorting and copying the Widrig obituaries. The Widrig collection is comprised of more than 30 boxes of pasted up clippings regarding the deaths of more than 15,000 individuals from the region.
The 157th Oswego County Fair is now history. Muddy parking lots, intermittent rain and sustained heat made the week somewhat uncomfortable and difficult for fairgoers.
Despite this, George Commins at the chicken stand said he was only “down 100 halves” from normal. In the Heritage building we were kept busy with a steady stream of regulars and new friends.
Two local young women are sharing their love of horses with others this week and again in August. The next session of the Bits and Pieces Horseback Riding Camp will be held on Monday.
