Open noon - 5 p.m. every weekend until Labor Day, the Oswego Railroad Museum will, in July, feature the exhibit "America's Freedom Train." Admission is only $2 for adults, $1 for youth and free for kids 6 and under.
OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego Valley Railroad Museum, located on the corner of West First and Lake streets, near the harbor, is open to the public from noon – 5 p.m. every weekend until Labor Day PLUS some special weekends.

July 12, 13 and 19, 20, the Oswego Railroad Museum will be featuring, by popular demand, a return of the American Freedom Train exhibit.
The first American Freedom Train was created in 1947 to help celebrate our freedom after World War II.
The exhibit includes an O Scale model of the train that would tour the country until 1949.
The second Freedom Train was created to help promote patriotism for the country’s bicentennial and traveled during 1975 and 1976.
The O Scale Bicentennial Freedom is almost 40 feet long, including models of both the steam locomotives that took turns pulling the train.
There will be photos and memorabilia from both trains.
Also on exhibit will be items from the New York State Freedom Train, which toured the state during 1949 and 1950.
During Harborfest weekend, July 26 and 27, the museum will feature the exhibit “Railroads and the Sea,” which covers the history of how the railroads and shipping industries have worked together throughout the years.
Some railroads actually have their own maritime divisions such as the New York Central, which used tugboats and barges to carry their freight cars across the Hudson River to New York City.
Oswego was home to a total of four coal trestles, where the railroads would transfer the coal brought from Pennsylvania to barges and ships, for delivery to ports all along the Great Lakes.
Also, the museum will be offering bottled water, for a nominal fee, during Harborfest.
