New York State Police Announce Traffic Restrictions for July 3, 2026 Brewerton Fireworks Event
The New York State Police, in coordination with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, Cicero Police Department, Onondaga and Oswego County fire departments and emergency personnel, and municipal partners, are advising motorists and residents of planned traffic restrictions and roadway changes associated with the July 3, 2026 fireworks event in Brewerton.
To ensure public safety and assist with traffic flow before, during, and after the event, temporary road closures and traffic pattern changes will be implemented throughout portions of Onondaga and Oswego Counties.
Motorists are encouraged to plan accordingly, allow additional travel time, follow posted signage, and comply with directions from law enforcement and emergency personnel.
Onondaga County
Beginning at 6:00 p.m.
- All side streets accessing Route 11 north of Orangeport Road, with the exception of Bartel Road and Guy Young Road, will be closed. Access will be limited to local residents only.
- Bartel Road will remain open for eastbound and westbound traffic.
- Kathan Road will be closed from Route 11 to Bartel Road. Access will be limited to local traffic only.
- Miller Road will remain open for local residents and traffic only.
At 8:00 p.m. the US Route 11 temporary bridge will be open to northbound traffic only.
At 9:30 p.m. All pedestrian traffic across the temporary Route 11 bridge will be restricted until after the conclusion of the fireworks.
At approximately 9:40 p.m. fireworks are expected to begin.
Interstate 81 off-ramps to Bartel Rd will be closed immediately prior to the start of the fireworks.
There will be no stopping or standing on Interstate 81.
Approximately 10:00 p.m. Traffic restrictions will remain in place for approximately 30–45 minutes, or until traffic conditions improve:
- All side streets accessing Route 11 north of Orangeport Road, with the exception of Guy Young Road, will be closed. Access will be limited to local traffic only.
- All traffic will be directed southbound on Route 11.
- No traffic will be permitted to turn onto Bartel Road until conditions allow, as determined by the Incident Commander.
- Bartel Road will be closed westbound. Traffic will be directed eastbound toward Interstate 81.
- Miller Road will remain open for residents and local traffic only. Vehicles exiting Miller Road onto Brewerton Road may turn left or right. Vehicles exiting Miller Road onto Bartel Road will only be permitted to turn right.
- Kathan Road will be closed.
- Brewerton Plaza and Brewerton Center traffic will only be permitted to turn right onto Bartel Road.
- Exits onto Brewerton Road will be closed.
- The temporary Route 11 bridge will be closed to all traffic.
Oswego County
Beginning at 6:00 p.m.
- All side streets accessing East River Road will be closed at Hines Road, Canter Road, Vinette Road, and East River Road at Sacketts Drive.
- Local residents may access the area through Canter Road.
At 8:00 p.m.
- The Route 11 temporary bridge will be open to northbound traffic only.
At 9:30 p.m.
- All pedestrian traffic across the temporary Route 11 bridge will be restricted until after the fireworks.
Approximately 9:40 p.m. fireworks are expected to begin.
Interstate 81 off-ramps will be closed immediately prior to the start of the fireworks.
There will be no stopping or standing on Interstate 81.
Approximately 10:00 p.m. Traffic restrictions will remain in place for approximately 30–45 minutes, or until traffic conditions improve:
- All traffic on the Oswego County side will be directed northbound.
- Motorists traveling south will need to proceed to Central Square and access Interstate 81 from the Central Square entrance ramp.
- The US Route 11 temporary bridge will be closed to all traffic.
The New York State Police remind all attendees to remain alert, drive responsibly, and follow instructions from emergency personnel. These traffic measures are being implemented to promote public safety and allow for the safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians before and after the fireworks event.
