SYRACUSE – If you’ve ever wanted to see some of the world’s most beautiful horses up close and personal, mark your calendar for the 39th Annual All Arabian Spring Show at the State Fairgrounds for May 6 through 8 sponsored by the Empire State Arabian Horse Association.
This family-friendly show has free admission and free parking.
You can watch from ringside or take the family on a guided tour of the barns to meet owners, riders and their gentle, people-oriented horses. The Arabian is one of the world’s oldest breeds and the ancestor of the thoroughbred, the quarter horse, and most other modern riding horses and ponies.
The show will feature Arabians and Half Arabians from throughout the Northeast, including many from upstate New York, in a wide range of disciplines, from English pleasure horses to western pleasure and dressage. It will include sport horses, a group that is growing rapidly in popularity.
In this Class A Show, the horses and their riders will compete for a chance to move up to regional and national competitions. Competitors will include top riders and trainers, as well as tots on horses with lead lines, seasoned teens and adults, and amateurs 40 and older. The judges will be Pepper Profit of Johnstown, Ohio, in the main ring and Ann Forer of Milford, N.J., for sport horse and dressage.
Classes begin at 8 a.m. daily and continue into the evening on Friday and Saturday. Most competitions will be in the Coliseum, although some will be outdoors in the 4-H Specialty Show Ring and the Country Max Race Arena. More information is online at www.empirearabian.org
