Area Students Honored At SUNY Oswego Convocation

OSWEGO, NY – SUNY Oswego recently presented scholarships and other awards to more than 100 students at the college’s 2016 Honors Convocation.

The formal ceremony, complete with a procession of faculty and college officers in full academic regalia, is sponsored each spring at Oswego by Vega, the women’s honor society.

The audience included faculty, staff, students and students’ family members.

Christopher Bartlett of Nichols Road in Martville, a senior majoring in cognitive science at Oswego, received the Distinguished Cognitive Science Senior Award. He is the son of Bonnie Bartlett and Frankie Bartlett.

Adam Clawson of West Albany Street in Oswego, a junior majoring in school psychology at Oswego, received the Lucy Wing Memorial Fund Award. He will start Syracuse University’s school psychology Ph.D. program. He is the son of Toby Clawson and Scott Clawson.

Noelle Crocetti of Hadcock Drive in Sterling, a senior majoring in human development at Oswego, received the Award for Outstanding Senior in Human Development. She plans on going into the educational field. She is the daughter of Linda Crocetti and Rick Crocetti.

Martin Dann of French Street in Parish, a senior majoring in physics at Oswego, received the Outstanding Physics Major Award. He plans to attend graduate school at Cornell University. He is the son of Michelle Martin and Doug Martin.

Alena Fresch of County Route 57 in Oswego, a junior majoring in childhood education at Oswego, received the Charles A. Leonard and Margaret S. Leonard Scholarship. She plans to go to graduate school at SUNY Oswego. She is the daughter of Cynthia Fresch and David Fresch.

Hallie Gaffney of Frank Lacy Road in Pulaski, a senior majoring in anthropology at Oswego, received the Norman E. Whitten Award for Outstanding Achievement in Anthropology. She plans to attend the forensic anthropology program at Texas State University. She is the daughter of Michelle Revette and Ronald Revette.

Lauren Hardy of Stevens Road in Martville, a freshman majoring in zoology at Oswego, received the Edward Austin Sheldon Award. She plans to become a veterinarian. She is the daughter of Donna Hardy and Mark Hardy.

Thomas Huffaker of Frenchmans Creek Drive in Phoenix, a senior majoring in information science at Oswego, received the Outstanding Senior in Information Science Award. He is the son of Nancy Huffaker and Daniel Huffaker.

Kimberlyn Bailey of Talisman Terrace in Oswego, a senior majoring in philosophy at Oswego, received the Paideia Award. She plans to work at the National Institutes of Health in its post-baccalaureate research training program before applying to MD-Ph.D. programs. She is the daughter of Charin Smith and Kelly Smith.

Courtney Lindon of Leader Road in Waterloo, a senior majoring in mental health counseling at Oswego, received the Donald Snygg Graduate Scholarship. She plans to pursue a license in mental health counseling. She is the daughter of Lisa Lindon and Steven Lindon.

Leiba Ramos of East Albany Street in Oswego, a senior majoring in Spanish at Oswego, received the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese Award. She plans to attend graduate school for education. She is the wife of Jose Ramos, and daughter of Siria Vasquez and Miguel Vasquez.

Shirley Retz of State Route 104A in Sterling, a senior majoring in mental health counseling at Oswego, received the Thomas H. Chapman Memorial Award. She is the daughter of Debbie Caley and Richard Mack.

Katherine Robinson of County Route 20 in Oswego, a junior majoring in childhood education at Oswego, received the Lisa Frank Memorial Scholarship and the R. Lee Martin Award. She plans to attend graduate school at SUNY Oswego and teach elementary school. She is the daughter of Sonia Robinson and William Robinson.

Jennifer Santorelli of Northridge Drive in Central Square, a senior majoring in history at Oswego, received the Marion Mahar Memorial Award and the Virginia L. Radley Fellowship. She plans to attend graduate school at SUNY Oswego and work. She is the wife of Frank Santorelli, and the daughter of Linda Purcell and Richard Purcell.

Elizabeth Scott of Carson Drive in Oswego, a junior majoring in human resource management at Oswego, received the Society for Human Resource Management J. Donald Herring, PH.D., SPHR Award. She plans to work in the field of human resources. She is the daughter of Lesa Scott and Steve Scott.

Krista Vann of Bingham Road in Oswego, a junior majoring in psychologyand music at Oswego, received the Olive Brannan Spargo ’31 Endowment Leadership Award and the Vega Award for Academic Excellence. She plans to attend graduate school in either the field of psychology or music. She is the daughter of Rebecca Vann and David Vann.
