FULTON – The Fulton Art Association awarded two deserving Fulton seniors for their achievements in art and photography for the 2016-17 school year.
Meredith Gill-Williams, Jacqueline Tyler (art teachers) and Star Mattison of G. Ray Bodley High School selected the recipients of the two $100 scholarships.
The 2017 Art Award is being awarded to Stacey Sereno and the 2017 Photography Award is being awarded to Zach Vaccaro.

Sereno is a senior student who has excelled in all areas of 2D art, including acrylics, charcoal, pen and ink, colored pencil, and painting mixed media.
When talking about creating a still life piece of artwork, she concentrates on details and craves the perfection her still-life offers.
“Every aspect made me forget about the life that surrounded me, and the image of realism captured every corner of my brain. I could not stop. Every line, every stroke, every shadow and highlight had to be just right. Every detail had to be perfect,” she said.
She said the study of art completes her because of the attention to detail that is required and has learned success through persistence and strong focus.
By working on art projects, she says she has found true joy that comes from exerting hard work and patience to achieve her goals.
She plans to continue artwork as well as attend Alfred University where she will major in Health and Fitness Management with a minor in art.
While at Alfred, she will also be playing her other passion – volleyball.
After completing her Bachelor’s degree, she will be going on to Physical Therapy school. With her degree in Physical Therapy, she plans on owning her own practice while creating art on the side.
She is the daughter of Vanessa and Richard Sereno.

Vaccaro is a senior at G. Ray Bodley High School who excels in photography.
His teacher, Star Mattison, said he is very studious when it comes to his photography work.
“He spends a majority of time planning and editing his photos. Zach is very creative and always seeks out new techniques and information to enhance his work. He prefers nature photography, while focusing his attention on creeks and wooded areas. Zach likes to show texture and movement in his photographs to enable his viewer to encounter the same experience in the woods as he has taking the photograph,” she said.
He is the son of Jennifer and Robert Vaccaro.
He will be attending Cayuga Community College for two years with cinematography as a major and then plans to obtain his four-year degree with a major in cinematography/film and a minor in photography.
He is currently looking at attending Ohio State or Champlain College in Vermont after completing a degree at CCC.
Congratulations to Stacey and Zach for their talents and accomplishments in the fields of art and photography!
