Ash Tree Tagging Event ‘A Success’

FULTON, NY – The Friends of the Great Bear, a partner with St. Lawrence-Eastern Lake Ontario Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management, recently hosted an Ash tree tagging event at Great Bear Recreational Area.

As a citizen science project, the purpose of the event was to create public awareness of the Emerald Ash Borer and to promote community preparedness.

Also incorporated was information on the Asian Long Horned Beetle, Giant Hogweed, Swallow Wort and other invasives.

More than 35 people passed through the information booth with 19 participating in the actual tagging event.

Tree identification and tagging was led by Joe Chairvolotti, forester from Oswego county Soil & Water Conservation District.

A total of 24 Ash trees were selected for tagging.

All-in-all it was a “huge success,” organizers report.
