FULTON – G. Ray Bodley High School recently held its annual Spring STEAM Showcase as a way to for students to promote some of the many activities being done throughout the building.
The event, which received a sizable turnout, provided an evening full of student achievements, including musical soloists, science and engineering presentations, art displays and hands-on technology demonstrations.
“I believe we had well over 1,000 visitors,” said Michael Thurlow, a technology teacher and coordinator of the event. “This was a huge success and I could not be prouder of the turnout. We had a few community members that came in just to see what the evening was all about and they didn’t have any students attending our district.”
According to Thurlow, the event showcases the importance of teaching STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) skills that are needed in today’s industry.
“The role of education has changed over the past few years. We are trying to move from teaching in silos where classes are confined by four walls, and into an educational system where kids work on cross curricular projects,” said Thurlow. “We hope that showcases like this allow our students and community to see how important these skills are.”
