Buddy and Porky Pet Health – Putting An End To The ‘Sport’ Of Dog Fights

Porky and Buddy

Dear Readers,
We know you agree that dog fighting as a “sport” is one of the most monstrous forms of animal cruelty.

Forcing animals to try to kill each other for entertainment or gaming for profit has no place in our society.

Fortunately, the laws to forbid and punish the perpetrators of this crime get stronger every year.

But there is a related problem.

Dogs seized as living evidence of the crime can end up in legal limbo for months or even years as court cases drag on.

We need to ensure that dogs rescued from fighting can be rehabilitated and rehomed quickly.

Passage of the HEART (Help Extract Animals from Red Tape) Act introduced in 2017 by our very own Congressman John Katko would help.

It would reduce unnecessary delays in the rehoming of these dog victims rescued in federal cases.

But it has been stalled in Congress since its introduction.

Please help.

The ASPCA has an online petition directed at US Attorney General Jeff Sessions to urge him to lend his support to the bill.

That would go a long way to push it out of committee.

You can find it on the ASPCA website at www.aspca.org/take-action/advocacy-center

We’re not usually a big advocate of online petitions directed at our legislators, but this one goes to the Department of Justice and we hope it will get their crime-fighting attention.

If Congressman Katko is your representative we hope you take the time to call him and thank him.

If not, please call your own congressional representative to urge support for the HEART Act, HR 398.

On a happier note, the Fur Ball is coming up on Saturday, April 28, from 5:30 to 11 p.m. at the American Foundry, West Seneca Street, Oswego.

A plated dinner, cocktail hour, music and dancing, fabulous silent auction, more fun than a litter of puppies and kittens!

Well maybe not—but still a lot of fun.

  1. Please include the confiscation of ALL guns from the perps. Research shows that they invariably regress to harming humans. Besides, guns belong in The Militia’s Arsenal, not in the hands of non-serving civilians.
