OSWEGO, NY – Burritt Motors, 340 Route 104 East, will host an electronics recycling day for Oswego County businesses and households at the dealership from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Aug. 8 for Oswego Industries as part of an ongoing collection program that also generates jobs for people with developmental disabilities.
“This is a great opportunity, especially for businesses, to hoe out obsolete electronic equipment and reclaim valuable work space,” said Rich Burritt, Burritt Motors co-owner. “Even more important are the jobs it generates for OI in our county while handling unwanted electronic waste in a safe, secure and environmentally responsible manner. In addition, Burritt employees will pickup electronic items for recycling from Oswego County businesses that day. Call or email the dealership to arrange a pickup at 343-8948 or [email protected]. Residents and businesses in Oswego County can no longer place electronic equipment, such as TVs and DVD players in the trash for disposal, said John Hovey, OI director of business development.
“Recycling your electronics keeps dangerous materials such as lead, mercury, cadmium and chromium form being released into the environment. As part of this, any device with Cathode Ray Tubes such as TVs, will require a $10 donation for processing. Flat screen televisions are free,” he said.
The following items will be accepted at no charge: laptops, desktops, cellphones, tablets, circuit boards, speakers, TVs, monitors, servers, printers, CD/DVD players, MP3 players, fax machines, game systems, communications equipment, scanners, cameras, LCDs, keyboards, VCRs, tape players, typewriters, computer mice, answering machines, and telephones.
OI, who has partnered with CyclePoint to help create new job opportunities for people with developmental disabilities, will be holding several collection days this year, Hovey said.
All of the “de-manufacturing” will take place at OI’s 88,000 square-foot facility in Fulton.
OI is a not-for-profit company and is a NY State DEC registered electronic waste recycling facility.
