C-NS Seniors Help Those Just Starting Out

FULTON, NY – Four students from Cicero-North Syracuse High School recently gave a Saturday morning to volunteer for OCO’s Head Start preschool program.

The seniors spent five hours scraping, priming, and painting the playground fence and play house at the Pinewoods Head Start Center on Route 57.

The students are enrolled in a “Participation in Government” class which requires participants to volunteer time with local not-for-profit agencies.

The four selected Head Start because of the program’s goal to provide all children with a quality preschool experience.

Head Start’s primary goal is promoting school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children.

The program is available at no cost to families who meet the federal guidelines.

“It’s wonderful that these teens gave their time to help the youngest learners in our community,” said Carole LaVoie, teacher at the Pinewoods Head Start Center.

OCO Head Start has many volunteer opportunities available and welcomes both individuals and groups who would like to give their time.
