FULTON, NY – Executive Director of the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County, Olivia VanSanford has announced that the CAC will host a very special Parent Support Group for non-offending parents of children who have been sexually abused.
The Parent Support Group will be held Wednesday evenings now through Dec. 16 at the Child Advocacy Center, 370 S. Fourth St.
“We are excited to be offering this informative support group,†said VanSanford. “The focus of the support group will be on pertinent topics such as secondary wounding, anger, guilt, fear, and how to help children through the process.â€Â
The Parent Support Group, which will be facilitated by Senior Mental Health Counselor, Stacy Austin-Root and Mental Health Counselor, Jennifer Glowacki, is free and is made possible thanks to a mini-grant from the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau.
For the convenience of the families, the CAC will also host a children’s activity time while the Parent Support Group is taking place.
Facilitated by Mental Health Counselor, Marna Metcalf of Catholic Charities of Oswego County and Kerry Delduchetto of the CAC, the children’s activity time will focus on healthy coping skills, expressing feelings, and self esteem.
Established in 2001, the CAC of Oswego County is a non-profit charitable organization that provides a range of services to children who have been physically, sexually, or emotionally abused.
Working together with law enforcement investigators, child protective services, medical providers, therapeutic professionals, victim support professionals, and the district attorney’s office, the CAC looks to maintain a well-coordinated, effective approach to child abuse investigation and prosecution, and service provision to families and individuals affected by child abuse.
