MEXICO – Work-study students from a Community Service class at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation have been a part of a chain reaction of kindness to spread joy to communities in Houston, Texas, that have been affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Teachers Becky Craig and Mary Throne collaborated with an art classroom at Westfield High School in Houston to distribute both hygiene and cleaning supplies to homeowners that were left to pick up the pieces after the hurricane destroyed homes and much of their contents.
The CiTi students made and distributed posters and collection boxes throughout CiTi’s main campus in Mexico so they could include all programs in hopes of making the greatest impact.
Items collected were shipped to Texas where Westfield High School served as a school of intake of students from other schools directly affected by the hurricane flooding.
As part of the project, the CiTi students researched families affected by Hurricane Harvey, read articles as a class about the hurricane’s negative impact and utilized their own artistic, writing and organizational skills to complete related tasks.
Craig and Throne said the Hurricane Harvey relief project is one of many the students will work on throughout the 2017-18 school year.
