MEXICO – Following 30 days of hard work and training, two students enrolled in the Heavy Equipment Repair & Operation program at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation recently received commercial driver’s licenses.
Richard Krause and Isaac Havens, both from Central Square Central School District, received their CDL-B licenses, which will permit them to drive a variety of large vehicles, including dump trucks, tow trucks and buses.
Following a month of training behind the wheel and studying bookwork, the students aced a required written exam, with Havens recording a perfect score.
According to instructor John DeSantis, 50 percent of applicants fail the written exam in their first try.
“It says something about these two. It’s a big deal,” said DeSantis. “They can get a great job right out of high school with this license.”
