MEXICO – Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation Exceptional Education students recently participated in a three-day workshop with teaching artist Ira Marcks.
Throughout the first two days of the workshop students learned to design a video game by creating a background, drawing a target and trouble-shooting issues when the program did not work.
CiTi library media specialist Tammy Cummings said students enjoyed the lesson and have asked to return to the library media center to further enhance their video game design skills.
During this process, Marcks said students learned about various artistic skills, such as color making, and how art can have a deep meaning.
On the final day of the workshop, students worked on painting Marcks’ designs, which coincided with the theme of CiTi’s STRIVE: Safe Trusting Restorative Instructional and Vocational Environment program.
“The Builder” illustrates how hard work makes the best things, while “The Drifter” is about going where the wind takes you.
Exploration of the unknown is the meaning behind “The Adventurer” and pushing oneself to the limit is the meaning behind “The Daredevil.”
Kaley Thompson said she enjoyed mixing colors and Marcks taught Brian Gibbons about brush strokes and color creation.
“I think I did awesome,” Gibbons said.
Cummings said all four collaborative paintings will be displayed in the Exceptional Education wing.
