CiTi to Host Parent Information Night for New Vision Programs

OSWEGO – A free parent information night will be held at the SUNY Oswego Sheldon Hall Ballroom on Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. for all those interested in taking advantage of the opportunities through the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation’s New Vision programs, which provide career-minded learning experiences to high school seniors in preparation for college.

Law enforcement, veterinary science, health care, engineering . . . these are all possible fields of study for interested senior-year students.

All programs meet five days a week throughout the school year for a half day.

The students spend three weekday mornings or afternoons on the SUNY Oswego campus in a classroom setting.

The remaining two days are spent at various rotation sites where students have the opportunity to learn and implement skills in a real-life professional setting.

Rotations sites may include hospitals, town courts, local businesses, veterinary offices and more.

The New Vision program has prepared numerous students for success in their career.

Kaysey L. Grard’s exposure to law enforcement agencies and legal officials as a New Vision Law and Government student in 2007 and 2008 prepared her for a successful career as a liaison for New York City Emergency Management in Brooklyn.

“New Vision is the best opportunity to start building your resume, define your direction, or sometimes, just find that you are interested in something else,” she said.

Grard credits her New Vision interactions with helping to define the direction of her career and giving her the opportunity to understand various levels of communication, confidence and the ability to represent a jurisdiction as a public servant. She lauded New Vision instructor Dianna Nesbitt for being an exceptional role model and great mentor to the students she teaches.

Students enrolled in the New Vision program have the ability to receive twelve college credits for 150 through SUNY Oswego. New Vision students will get the chance to explore career choices not offered at their home school.

Students are placed in a customized career setting with a carefully selected mentor, where they are able to learn career-specific skills.

To qualify for the program, a student must possess a GPA of 85% or higher and a good attendance record as well as submit an application and two educator references.

CiTi teachers and counselors will be available at the New Vision Parent Information Night held at SUNY Oswego on Feb. 22 to take questions and provide resources and information.
