CiTi’s Instructional Support Services Department Helps MACS Students Create PSAs

MEXICO – Mexico Middle School health students have developed public service announcements in collaboration with the Instructional Support Services Department at CiTi by participating in technology training sessions provided by CiTi itinerant computer specialist Brad Beck.

Rick Lenahan, Mexico Middle School health teacher, said his students learned how to use the iPad application “Touchcast” to educate teachers, administrators and fellow classmates on the dangers of texting and driving, smoking, bullying, suicide and underage drinking.

Utilizing Touchcast to create PSAs has been the perfect tool for students to advocate for awareness of health issues, which is one of the seven health skills students learn in middle-school.

Beck conducted Touchcast training sessions and modeled video production components could be pieced together.

With Touchcast, which is a video creation suite, people can record video, import video clips from YouTube, edit video and utilize a green-screen section to create a virtual background.

“Rick had an instructional idea and I matched up the technology tools that would best serve that,” Beck said.

The PSAs have been shared with the health students and at grade-level meetings.

Their work will also be shown during a spring “Celebration of Learning Night” at the middle school.
