Local author Justin Johnson, a kindergarten teacher at Fairgrieve Elementary in Fulton, will be featured alongside Margaret Streitenberger, a local author and publisher who promotes works of local first-time authors and artists.

The event will be held March 13 from 3-4 p.m. at CNY Arts Center located at 11 River Glen Drive on the Cayuga Community College Fulton campus.

Johnson began his writing career with a group of second grade students as a teacher in a Fulton Elementary school.

With a surprisingly enthusiastic response from the students, Johnson went on to write a collection of titles suited for and popular with children ages 6 to 12.

Titles include Farty Marty, Ricky Raccoon, Skeeter Skunk, and Flick, now available as “The Disgusting and Heartwarming Collection.”

He will be unveiling his newest release, “School Super Hero 2” at the Spotlight with books available for purchase and signing.

Streitenberber is no stranger to the local writing community as a principal partner in Tails and Tales Publishing Company and her work with dogs.

Her company strictly promotes the work of local authors and illustrators pursuing their first publishing experience.

Several well-known titles include Theodore, by Susan Deyrich Rubin, with illustrations by Diana Bukowski and Charlotte’s Big Dream by Connie Evans with illustrations by Jim Arnold.

The book is based on a real-life shelter dog Evans rescued. Evans and her dog often make calls to senior centers and children’s groups to promote animal adoptions.

Author’s Spotlight, free and open to the public, is held quarterly and features local authors.

The theme of children’s book authors is in keeping with the celebration of children’s author Dr. Seuss whose birthday is March 2.

The Arts Center Kids Onstage will present Seussical Jr, when more than 30 school age children bring favorite Seuss characters to life in song and dance.

The production runs April 1-10 at the Arts Center located at 11 River Glen Drive in Fulton.
