CSEA, AFSCME Endorse Barclay For Assembly

OSWEGO COUNTY – Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C,I,Ref-Pulaski) announced that he has received the endorsement of the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) for his re-election to the 120th Assembly District.

CSEA represents 300,000 active and retired public- and private-sector employees across the state. AFSCME represents more than 400,000 public and non-profit employees in New York through six affiliate organizations.

“It is an honor to receive the support of CSEA and AFSCME, two of New York’s most highly-respected organizations representing our dedicated public workforce and employees of non-profit organizations,” Barclay said. “So many frontline workers and public employees put their lives on the line and answered the call when COVID-19 struck. I am truly grateful for their support and confidence.”

CSEA President Mary E. Sullivan stated, “On behalf of the Civil Service Employees Association, I am pleased to inform you of CSEA’s endorsement of your candidacy for New York State Assembly. As New York and its localities grapple with the economic fallout of COVID-19, we need elected officials who will fight to maintain these services while keeping our workforce safe.”

In its endorsement letter, AFSCME Political and Legislative Director Brian McDonnell wrote, “The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees is pleased to endorse your re-election for New York State Assembly. As you are aware, many of our members are essential employees who have worked tirelessly throughout this pandemic. These workers are everyday heroes. We appreciate your advocacy for federal assistance for state and local governments.”

Barclay represents the 120th Assembly District, which includes the Oswego County towns of Albion, Amboy, Boylston, Constantia, Granby, Hastings, Mexico, New Haven, Orwell, Palermo, Parish, Redfield, Richland, Sandy Creek, Schroeppel, Scriba, Volney, West Monroe and Williamstown; the cities of Oswego and Fulton; the Onondaga County town of Lysander; and the Jefferson County town of Ellisburg. In January, he was elected unanimously by his colleagues as the Leader of the Assembly Minority Conference.
