Dr. Michael Ameigh, Professor of Communications Studies at SUNY Oswego and an avid birder, will speak at the H. Lee White Marine Museum in Oswego, NY on September 13, 2008 at 1:30 PM
The third lecture of the H. Lee White Marine Museum’s 2008 Lecture Series will be presented Saturday afternoon, September 13, at 1:30 PM in the Pontiac Room at the Museum. “This is the 7th year that the Museum has offered educational lectures to the public free of charge,” noted Mercedes Niess, Executive Director of the Museum.
Featured speaker Dr. Michael S. Ameigh will discuss “Winter Water Birds of Eastern Lake Ontario”. He will highlight a number of waterfowl and other birds that visit the Oswego Harbor and other Central New York waterways during the colder months. These include divers like the Long-tailed Duck, White winged Scoter, Scaup, Red-breasted and Hooded Merganser, Red throated Loon, among many others.
Dr. Ameigh is a professor of Communication Studies and Assistant Provost for Budget and Operations at SUNY Oswego. An avid birder, he has produced numerous nature documentaries that focus on the wildlife and ecology of Upstate New York. His documentary “Winter Water Birds of Eastern Lake Ontario,” has been broadcast on WCNY-PBS television. His other productions include “River of Rushes,” an introduction to the Montezuma Wetland Complex near Seneca Falls, NY that has been broadcast on WCNY-PBS Syracuse and the state-wide digital educational cable television channel ThinkBright/Create.
Dr. Ameigh has been a member of the faculty at SUNY Oswego since 1990. Previously he was a professor of Mass Communication at St. Bonaventure University. He has owned and managed broadcast stations in New York and Pennsylvania, and holds a doctorate in Public Communication from the S.I. Newhouse School at Syracuse University.
