OSWEGO, NY – One of Oswego County’s most community minded companies, Entergy’s James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant, recently completed its annual employee campaign in support of the United Way of Greater Oswego County.
Campaign coordinator Julie Fischer attributes the continued success of Entergy’s employee campaigns for the United Way to the fact that the employees recognize the positive impact that the United Way has on Oswego County and are happy to lend their support.
“Helping people is really important to me. I know that I can’t help everyone, but by contributing to United Way I know that my money is impacting people throughout Oswego County. Ultimately though it comes down to this, when I see pictures like the one of the little girl enjoying dinner at the Salvation Army it warms my heart to know that I’m part of that,” she said.
Entergy’s employee campaign, which was held in November, raised more than $52,000 that will be matched by Entergy corporate for a total contribution to the United Way Annual Campaign of more than $104,000.
Tammy Holden, who has helped coordinate past employee campaigns, was pleased results with the campaign and appreciated the support the campaign received from her fellow employees as well as from Entergy’s corporate level.
“Everyone has their own personal reason for why they contribute. FitzPatrick employees step forward each year and donate generously to the United Way. Entergy then matches employee contributions dollar for dollar because Entergy believes in giving back to the community. It’s not only good business – it’s the right thing to do,” said Holden.
Resource development director for the United Way, Lois Luber, who works closely with the employee campaign coordinators, praised Fischer for her work in getting the campaign under way and acknowledged her efforts.
“Julie, and her entire team, worked very hard on planning the Entergy employee campaign and implemented a number of news ideas to ensure its success, including a silent auction that their entire campaign team helped organize. Team members Patti Ponzi and Carolyn Thompson were also instrumental in making the Entergy employee campaign a success. These campaigns, hosted by companies such as Entergy’s James A. FitzPatrick plant, are the lifeblood of our annual campaign. They play a vital role in helping the United Way reach its goals. The donations we receive through payroll deduction provide approximately 66% of our total campaign dollars. We appreciate the support we receive through payroll deduction and for corporate support as well. It’s very gratifying to know that individual employees realize the impact that the United Way and our member agency programs have on the quality of life in Oswego County. It is an excellent example of the United Way’s Live United concept that we are all connected and that by supporting the United Way they can truly help make a difference in their community,” she said.
The United Way of Greater Oswego County’s goal for the 2010/2011 annual campaign is $800,000.
The money raised will support the many human services programs that the United Way and its member agencies provide for those who live in Oswego County.
