Fables Lesson Culminates In Performance For Fairley First Graders

After reading “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” in the classroom, Fairley Elementary students recently saw the story come to life during a performance.

Actors from Merry-Go-Round Playhouse presented a spin on the classic fable to an audience of first-graders. Students immersed themselves in the lesson as they portrayed different secondary characters and learned the importance of telling the truth.

As the story unfolded, students had the opportunity to identify different character attributes (trustworthiness, responsibility and citizenship); compare and contrast various roles in the community; and differentiate between wants and needs.

They also learned several new vocabulary words, such as forge, graze, shepherd and hibernation.

“It’s a nice curriculum tie-in with our fables unit,” said first grade teacher Rhonda Koskowski.
