PARISH – Five students and staff members of Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District took the plunge at Oneida Shores in Brewerton for the ninth annual CNY Polar Plunge, raising enough funds to enable 1.5 athletes to be a part of the Special Olympics this coming year.
“This is amazing and wonderful,” said special education aide Amy Scott. “We can’t thank the APW staff enough for their support and generosity!”
The Polar Plunge inspires community members to raise money for local Special Olympics athletes.

Students Allisyn Scott (seventh grade) and Kolby Roginson (fifth grade) joined APW staff members Scott, Janna Pearson and Liz Johnson in the freezing waters this year.
This was Scott and Roginson’s first year taking the plunge, but they plan on participating in years to come.
Overall, the five plungers raised more than $1,000 with the help of the APW staff and community.
“This is a great event to help raise funds to sponsor athletes,” said Amy Scott.
Special Olympics New York has approximately 65,665 athletes training and competing year-round in 22 Olympics-style sports.
Special Olympic athletes and their families or caregivers are never charged to participate.
It costs $300 to support training and competition for one athlete for one sports season (http://specialolympics-ny.org/).
