Peter Franco has announced his candidacy for Alderman of Fulton’s Third Ward. He is a Democrat and has been endorsed by the Fulton Democratic Committee.
Peter is a retired police officer from the Fulton Police Department. He retired in 2005 after serving for 27 years. Over the last eight years of his career, he served as Deputy Chief of
Police.
“My experience in the day to day management of the police department, putting together and implementing policies and working on annual budgets will be a great advantage to me. I have the knowledge and experience of how City government works; therefore there would be a short learning curve for me to be entirely involved in the council’s actions.†Prior to his career as a Fulton Police Officer, Peter served three years in the US Army from 1973 through 1976. “It is an honor and a privilege for me to be involved in public service and I believe that it is my responsibility to be involved. What better way to get back into the mix than to serve as Third Ward Alderman.†Franco said.
Franco was born and raised in Fulton and has resided at 852 Forest Ave with his wife, Terri for over 16 years. They have been married for nearly twenty three years. Peter and Terri have two children, Jamie and Peter, both of whom graduated from Fulton Schools. Each has graduated from Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tn. Currently Franco runs his own real estate business as an Associate Broker with Coldwell Banker Prime Properties. He serves as the Vice President of the Fulton Family YMCA Board of Directors; he is a retired member of the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police; he is a member Greater Syracuse Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.
Franco said his overall concerns are “equity in tax assessments though out the city†and “the quality of life in the third ward and the entire City.†He believes that everyone, city employees and residents working together can raise the quality of life in Fulton. “A higher quality of life creates a higher sense of pride in our community,†Franco said. He believes in the “Broken Window Theory,†if something is broken; fix it now before it becomes unmanageable.â€Â
He would like to see the City tackle problems of vandalism, deteriorating properties and deteriorating infrastructure, code enforcement, high tax rate, absentee landlords and nuisance properties in a more aggressive manner. Franco knows that the City has been moving ahead in a positive and productive manner and he wants to help move the process along with new and fresh ideas. “I think that the third ward monthly meetings have been valuable and I think that new ideas to help move the city forward will come from these meetings,†Franco said.
Franco thinks that the retiring Third Ward Alderman, Bob Weston has performed admirably and plans to continue to move along Bob’s projects that have already started such as, drainage problems in the ward, sidewalks, paving streets, traffic enforcement, alternative revenue sources, working to enhance the recreation department and much more.
