FULTON, NY – The Great Eastern Whiteout held in February at Fulton War Memorial and Lake Neatahwanta was once again a great success.
During the off season, Fulton Area Snow Travelers Snowmobile Club spread the success.
Four scholarships at $250 each were given to Oswego County students.
Each scholarship was funded by the Great Eastern Whiteout Committee.
Two scholarships were awarded to two Phoenix high school students in memory of Everet Regal, a Phoenix resident and racing snowmobile engineer and builder whose team “The Widow Makers” won the 1971 World Championship Snowmobile Races in Wisconsin.
The other two scholarships were to two Oswego County BOCES students in memory of Floyd “Spike” Nolan who was a former small engine teacher at Oswego County BOCES and snowmobile racing expert.
One recipient of the Everet Regal Scholarships were Daniel Taylor of Phoenix H. S.
He plans on furthering his education at O.C.C. in the fall.
The second award was given to Ian Evans.
He will further his studies in engineering at SUNY Oswego.
The two Spike Nolan scholarships were awarded to Joshua Ernestine and Delvin Kilmer-Allen.
Both students studied at BOCES.
Joshua was a graduate from Phoenix H. S. He will seek a career in the small engine repair field.
Delvin of Mexico H.S. will further his education in the heavy equipment repair field.
The Fulton CYO benefited this year with much needed sports equipment.
This was given to them by the Fulton Area Snowtravelers Snowmobile Club and funded by the Great Eastern Whiteout.
Mary-Margret Pekow, the executive director since 2008 said the donation was much appreciated.
The Fulton CYO is a great asset for the youth of Oswego County.
Club members have also given back to the community that supports them.
They have given back to the community by doing much needed services.
The bumper post in front of the city gazebo and in front of the Lock Restaurant were sanded and painted by Jim Latino and Ken Wheelock.
Latino also took it upon himself to paint the grates around the trees and the garbage cans with paint and supplies donated by The Great Eastern Whiteout Funds.
Plans for new benches will be donated when the Broadway bridge construction is completed.
These benches will be placed on Broadway and West First Street.
The Fulton Area Snow Travelers Members enjoyed participating in this year’s Memorial Day Parade with Lysander Construction donating time and equipment for the club to join in this great community event.
