FULTON – For more than 30 years the Fulton community has sponsored the Fulton CROP Hunger Walk. This year the walk will be held on October 1 at 1 p.m.
The Golden Mile or 5 kilometer Walk will begin and end at the Municipal Building’s Community Room at 141 S. First St.
The committee organizing the CROP Walk for Church World Service has set a goal of 100 walkers and hopes to raise $7,000 to help stop hunger here in our community and around the world, through self-help development initiatives.
A portion of the funds raised here in Fulton will go to five local hunger programs: Oswego County Catholic Charities Food Pantry, Oswego County Salvation Army Food Pantry, Dexterville Community Services Food Pantry, All Saint’s Church Tuesday evening free meal program, and Prince of Peace Church Blessings in a Backpack program.
This year Fulton joins more than 120,000 other walkers nationwide in an ecumenical effort to “End Hunger One Step at a Time.”
CWS held its first hunger walk in 1969 and the walks have grown to include walkers of all ages, faiths and backgrounds in many communities throughout the United States.
CWS which administers CROP Walk monies, is also involved helping recovery efforts after natural disasters: offering assistance, medical supplies, health kits and school kits. Seed monies for recovery projects are also provided.
