Support FCSD’s youngest students receive from home is key to consistent learning in the classroom, according to Carri Waloven, FCSD Director of Literacy and UPK.

Students and their families flocked to the family night, held in the gymnasium at the Fulton Education Center, where the students worked on their fine motor skills, counting, measuring, hand-eye-coordination, practicing healthy habits and literacy skills.

Activities included the creation of a spider snack with cheese spread, pretzel sticks and crackers, a “Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons” craft, a “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” alphabet tree and a craft where students practiced the letters that make up their first name.

They were also treated to free books and health information for the family.

Waloven said the UPK Family Night was the first of four to occur throughout the 2017-18 school year.

Each family night focuses on a different skill set or academic targets the children will learn.
