HANNIBAL – Hard work in the classroom paid dividends for dozens of Hannibal High School students who were recognized during a year-end awards ceremony.
The Lockwood Auditorium was bustling with excitement as teachers, faculty, community members and families congratulated students on their accomplishments.
Superintendent Donna Fountain and high school Principal Stephen Dunn said they were proud of the honorees, who are “exemplary young citizens who exhibit courage, poise, self-confidence and leadership.”
Throughout the ceremony, seniors and juniors were presented with hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship funds.
Additionally, medals were awarded to the 10 students from each class who posted the highest GPAs.
While student academic awards highlighted the evening, recognition was also given to three community members who represented the newest members of the Wall of Distinction.
This year’s inductees were Shirley Cianfarano, Leonard Earle and Daniel Griffin.
According to Principal Dunn, the example set by the Wall of Fame inductees is something that the students should strive for.
He noted that if the students continue to excel in the classroom and exhibit good character, those characteristics will bode well for the future.
“Thank you for the hard work and discipline,” Dunn said. “Those characteristics will ultimately lead to achievement and lifelong success.”
