Oswego, NY – Lifelong Oswego County resident Jay Scanlon has announced his candidacy for the Oswego County Legislature representing the 16th District, bringing decades of professional experience, community involvement, and a commitment to responsible government to the race.

A graduate of Oswego High School’s Class of 1975, Scanlon earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Printing Management from Rochester Institute of Technology. After spending eight years living and working in Rochester, he returned to Oswego County to raise his family and build his future in the community he proudly calls home.
Throughout his career, Scanlon has developed a reputation for leadership, accountability, and fiscal responsibility—qualities he believes are essential in county government.
“I’ve spent my life in Oswego County, and I care deeply about the future of our communities,” said Scanlon. “I believe county government should be transparent, accountable, and focused on delivering results for taxpayers. We need leadership that listens, works collaboratively, and makes decisions that strengthen our economy, protect taxpayer dollars, and improve quality of life for residents throughout the district.”
Scanlon’s campaign is centered on five key priorities:
• Transparent and accountable government
• Fiscal responsibility and smart budgeting
• Economic growth and job creation
• Strong communities and quality services
• Working together to prepare Oswego County for future generations
According to Scanlon, economic development and support for local businesses remain critical to ensuring long-term prosperity for Oswego County.
“We have tremendous opportunities in Oswego County,” Scanlon said. “By supporting local businesses, encouraging investment, and creating an environment where employers can grow, we can create good-paying jobs while maintaining the services residents depend on. My goal is to be a strong voice for the people of the 16th District and to help move our county forward.”
Scanlon also emphasized the importance of responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars and maintaining essential county services while strengthening neighborhoods and communities across the district.
“Public service is about earning the trust of the people you represent every day,” Scanlon said. “If elected, I will be accessible, responsive, and committed to listening to the concerns and ideas of residents throughout the 16th District. Together, we can make thoughtful decisions that benefit our communities today while building a stronger Oswego County for tomorrow.”
The general election will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Early voting begins Saturday, October 24, and runs through Sunday, November 1.
