OSWEGO, NY– On Monday, September 28, SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations (OBCR) and the Women’s Network for Entrepreneurial Training (WNET) will gather women from across New York State for “Connections,†a day-long conference to be held in the Sheldon Hall ballroom on the SUNY Oswego campus from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The keynote speaker for the event will be Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney. Mahoney is a life long resident of Central New York.
Born into a large family, she grew up in Syracuse and graduated from Corcoran High School, Syracuse University School of Management and Syracuse University College of Law. After passing the bar in 1990, she pursued a law career in private practice before beginning a successful public service career as a criminal prosecutor with the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office.
ahoney served on the Syracuse Common Council for four years. In 2007, she was elected to the office of County Executive for Onondaga County and is the third County Executive and the first woman to hold this position.
Joanie Mahoney’s goals have always included living and raising a family in Onondaga County and she has a vision for how she would like to see the county grow. Her parents instilled strong values – often stating, “If you have the ability to contribute then you also have an obligation to do so.†These strong values helped to cultivate in Mahoney a real sense of community, an interest in public policy and a desire to become a public servant.
Joanie Mahoney is married to Marc Overdyk. They have four sons and reside in the Town of Onondaga.

“Connections†is designed to bring women of all ages and backgrounds together to explore their place and power within their professions. The theme for this year’s event is “Vision, Change and Growth†and will feature several dynamic speakers, networking opportunities, a dessert reception and a “Women’s Marketplace†where vendors promoting products and services for women will be showcased.
Tammy Palmer from News10Now will be the emcee for this event. Other speakers for the event include Eileen L. Brophy, President of Brophy Services Inc., Ken Entenmann, Senior Vice President and Director of Trust and Investment Services at Alliance Bank and Diane Dillon, Head Coach of the Oswego State Lakers Women’s Hockey Team.

Registration and tickets for “Connections†will be available in late August from the Tyler Hall Box Office. Tickets are $35 and include a continental breakfast, lunch, and dessert reception.
